The Session

All yoga sessions take place in small groups (maximum of 8 children per session ) which is just right for promoting social skills development whilst still allowing for  individual observation of each child in order to best adapt programming to individual needs.

A complete session  run for 8 consecutive weeks on a once weekly schedule. Each class is 45 minutes with the last 15 minutes remaining for questions or individual instruction.

At the end of the 8 weeks each child will have a personal yoga sequence to take home in a booklet of colourful child-friendly poses.

Breakdown of a typical 45 minute class

  • The first 30 minutes for asanas (postures) including the sun-salutation (warm-up) and pranayama (breath work).
  • 2-5 minutes for meditation (concentration exercizes) and relaxation
  • last 10 minutes for a craft or take home activity related to the theme of the day.

Music and guided imagery will feature in the sessions.The use of props like weighted beanbags and textured blankets may also be used.
